Deportment of Neurology of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University was founded in 1971. Its research on clinical neurology and neuroscience ranks in the leading level in China. It is the Guangdong Center of National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, the member unit of National Key Subject (Neurology) and the Key Clinical Specialty of Guangdong Province. It is also the training unit of doctor degree and master degree of Sun Yat-sen University and the post-doctoral station of Sun Yat-sen University. It is the National standardized training base of Neurology for resident doctors, and it is also the National Clinical Trials Base.
Professor Yamei Tang is the director of Department of Neurology and the academic leader of Neurology. The department has 97 staffs, including 10 professors, 9 associated professors. The department has 2 wards with total 97 beds, 1 neurological intensive care unit (NICU) and neuro-electrophysiological examination units. The department has sub-specialties including cerebrovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, neuropsychology, neurointensive care, neurointervention, physical or chemical neural injuries and neural rehabilitation. It has 7 doctoral. supervisors and 11 master tutors. The department has achieved lots of awards including one National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, one National Science Foundation for Excellent Young Scholars, one New Century Talents of Ministry of Education, one Pearl River New Star, one “Thousand Million Talent Project”, three Sun Yat-sen Outstanding Young Talents, one Outstanding Physician in Neurological Academics of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and two Outstanding Young Physician in Neurological Academics of Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
