M.D. & Ph.D.
Professor of Breast Surgery
Doctoral Supervisor
President of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital
Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine
National Yangzi River Scholar in China
Distinguished Professor of China Medical Board (CMB)
Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (UK)

Clinical Focus
Early Diagnosis of Breast Cancer, Minimally Invasive Treatment of Breast Cancer, Biological Therapy for Breast Cancer, Standard Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer, which include early diagnosis and treatment that will save both the breasts and armpits, Radical Treatment of Breast Cancer, and Comprehensive Treatment of Late-stage Breast Cancer.

Research Interests
Prof. Song obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from Sun Yat-sen University, and trained as physician at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, SYSU. He had postdoc training at Essen University Hospital in Germany and Harvard Medical School from 1999 to 2004. His early publication “RNA interference targeting Fas protects mice from fulminant hepatitis” in Nature Medicine was the first to report that siRNA could be used therapeutically in whole animal disease model, and selected as one of the “Ten breakthroughs of the year 2003” by Science. After setting up his lab at Sun Yat-sen University in China, he has focused his research on the microenvironment of malignant tumors, mainly on breast cancers, and unraveled the regulatory mechanisms of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) related to tumor microenvironment.

Academic Achievements
Prof. Song has dedicated himself to the basic research concerning the biology of breast cancer and its therapeutic strategies. His distinguished researches are sponsored by National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, the State Key Program of National Natural Science of China, A3 Foresight Program by National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Special Program for Key Basic Research of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the key Clinical Program of the Ministry of Health of China and the exploratory program of the 863 project. Since 2007, Prof. Song Erwei has led 21 state research projects .

Prof. Song has published 118 research articles in SCI-indexed journals, including Cell, Cancer Cell, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, Science, Translational Medicine and so on. Also, he is leading five ongoing national research projects, and serves as associate editor for BMC Cancer, Cancer Science and Science China-Life Sciences, and reviewing editor for Journal of Biological Chemistry. He has received numerous honors, including the “Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award” in 2013, and the “National Natural Science Award” by the State Council of China in 2015.
